He was an only son. He was educated at Camden Grammar School and Newcastle High School. His father William was the Headmaster of Merewether Primary School from 1908 to 1917. Charles had just completed 5 years as an articled clerk in Wagga Wagga and was eligible to practice as a Solicitor when he enlisted on 1 August 1916 and served with the 5th Brigade Field Artillery A.I.F. His address on enlistment was 'Denbigh' Henry Street, Merewether, Newcastle, NSW. Charles departed Sydney on the 'Ascanius' 25 October 1916 and arrived in France via England in May 1917. Lieutenant Charles Thomas McIntosh HEATH was killed in action in Belgium on 26 September 1917 age 28. |
